How do I sync my OneDrive using the app?

With OneDrive for Business, you can sync files between your computer and the cloud. This provides the following benefits:

  • Easier access to your OneDrive for Business files and folders
  • Access your sync’d files even if you’re offline (they’ll sync when you reconnect to the internet)
  • Work with your OneDrive for Business files directly in File Explorer (Windows) or in Finder (MacOS)
  • Allows you to edit files using non-Microsoft products such as Adobe Acrobat, Camtasia and more
  • It’s a two way sync process allowing you to edit your files directly on your device or via the website

Sync OneDrive to your University computer (Windows)

Watch Sync OneDrive files and folders

University devices have the OneDrive app pre-installed.

  1. Select Start, type OneDrive, and then select OneDrive from the search results.
  2. Enter your University of Worcester staff email address then press Sign in.
  3. Press Next.
  4. You’ll be offered the choice of backing up your Desktop, Documents and Pictures folders. We recommend leaving this option selected. Press Continue.
  5. When offered the mobile app, choose Later.

At the end of the setup you’ll see Your OneDrive is ready for you. Select Open my OneDrive folder. You should see a link to your OneDrive folder in the File Explorer navigation pane.

Sync OneDrive to your University computer (macOS)

  1. On your Mac, click the Spotlight icon 🔎 (if shown) in the menu bar or press Command & Spacebar.
  2. Type OneDrive into the Spotlight search field.
  3. Select the OneDrive app from the results.
  4. Enter your University of Worcester staff email address and then press Sign in.
  5. Follow the set up steps

At the end of the setup you’ll see Your OneDrive is ready for you. Select Open my OneDrive folder. You should see a link to your OneDrive folder in the Finder navigation pane.

Work with your files in your file system

Once you’re synced, on Windows you will see your files in File Explorer. On a Mac, your files will appear in Finder.

If you use more than one account, your personal files appear under OneDrive – Personal and your work or school files appear under OneDrive – University of Worcester.

You can copy or move files from your computer to OneDrive right from your file system. Treat the OneDrive folder as if it is just another folder on your system- except anything placed in there will sync to the Cloud.

You can also click the OneDrive cloud icon in your notification area to check the status of your files.
