We have received reports of students being contacted by phone by people claiming to be from the University. During these calls, students are told they need to attend a University meeting and are then asked to share a verification code sent to them via WhatsApp.
This is a scam.
The University will never ask you to share a WhatsApp verification code, password or security code.
If you receive a call like this, do not share any information and end the call. If you are unsure whether a call is genuine, ask for the caller’s name and call them back via the University switchboard on 01905 855 000.WhatsApp’s have a help centre with guidance on dealing with suspicious messages and scams which can be found here: https://faq.whatsapp.com/2286952358121083
