September is a busy time for the University with lots of new staff and students starting with us. The eduroam wireless network is one of the principal offerings provided by the IT Service and so we’ve put together this top tips guide to make sure that you get the most from it and help solve any connectivity issues you may be having.
What is eduroam?
eduroam is a secure wireless network provided to the University by an organisation called JISC and is used by staff and students to connect their own devices to the internet when on campus. A significant benefit of eduroam is that once setup, it is then accessible to you at multiple institutions across the world, including most UK universities, as well as some libraries, museums and healthcare practices.
How do I get connected?
The simplest way to get connected is to download and install the “geteduroam” app on your device, either from your device’s monile app store, or directly from the eduroam website if using a computer:https://eduroam.org/geteduroam-get-connected-quickly-and-safely/
Follow our FAQ information here for further guidance on how to do this:
How do I connect to the Eduroam Wi-Fi?
Things to remember if you are struggling to connect:
Have you reset your password recently?
Remember if you have done this, you will need to update this in the geteduroam app as well.
Are you using the correct credentials?
Eduroam is slightly different to other University services in that students will sign in with their University email address rather than their password, and staff will combine their username with the last part of their email address to sign in e.g. otha1@worc.ac.uk
Has it been sometime since you last connected?
Periodically the eduroam service updates its security certificates. If it has been some time since you last connected, these certificates may have been updated, and you’ll need to refresh your connection in the app. Don’t worry, this is very simple to do by tapping the refresh button circled in green below
Can’t get a mobile data signal to download the geteduroam app?
Try temporarily connecting to our Guest Wi-Fi network to download the app. Don’t be tempted to stay on the Guest Wi-Fi network instead of eduroam as this network operates at slower speeds and connections only last for 24 hours.
