Organisations use Microsoft SharePoint to create websites. You can use it as a secure place to store, organise, share, and access information from any device. SharePoint as service at the University of Worcester is defined as a document storage and collaboration area.

Please note: The creation of new SharePoint sites is managed by the IT Service. To request a site, please log a ticket using the SharePoint site request template.

Microsoft creates a wide range of training materials for their products, these are great for learning the basics, are frequently updated and don’t require you to login or register for an account.

The Microsoft Learning Pathways portal gives all University faculty, staff, and students access to official, always up-to-date, Microsoft training content. Navigate through bitesize modules on specific Microsoft 365 products or complete scenario based training.

Getting started with SharePoint sites [ITSP01]

Description: This is an entry-level workshop for SharePoint site members. SharePoint at the University of Worcester is defined as a document storage and collaboration area. This workshop presents an overview and a practical look at SharePoint sites and is designed to help build your confidence in storing and sharing business-critical data using SharePoint. Prior experience with OneDrive is beneficial.

There will be opportunities to seek advice, clarifications and ask questions about SharePoint and its features.

Participants: This workshop is designed for SharePoint site members.

Facilitator: Jack Carver (Senior IT Training Analyst)

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand what SharePoint sites are, what they’re for and how to access them
  • How to access and use the document libraries
  • Share files/folders and manage sharing link permissions
  • Recover previous versions of documents and recover items from the site Recycle Bin
  • Know your responsibilities as a site member
  • Learn about the support for SharePoint sites

Administering SharePoint sites [ITSP02]

Description: This intermediate-level workshop provides nominated SharePoint site owners with the required knowledge to administer their SharePoint site and support site members.

There will be opportunities to seek advice, clarifications and ask questions about SharePoint and its features.

Please note: It’s recommended that you first attend the ‘Getting started with SharePoint sites’ training workshop. If you do not wish to do this, please ensure you have read the information on the SharePoint page on the IT Service website.

Participants: This workshop is recommended for all nominated SharePoint site owners.

Facilitator: Jack Carver (Senior IT Training Analyst)

Learning outcomes:

  • Learn to manage site and document library permissions
  • Gain confidence in the available data and disaster recovery options
  • How to successfully migrate business-critical data
  • Understand the support expectations and your responsibilities as a site owner
