A variety of training workshops are available from the IT Service covering Cybersecurity, GDPR and Microsoft 365 apps.

Instructor-led workshops can be held virtually via Microsoft Teams or in person on campus, depending on the nature of the subject being covered.

Available workshops

GDPR, Data Protection, FOI and Information Security

Description: This instructor-led workshop presents an overview of data protection legislation and sets out the University’s legal obligations. Practical guidance for staff is provided to enable best practice when dealing with personal data. There will be discussion and participation from attendees as to how the law affects their individual roles and opportunities to seek advice and clarification

Facilitators: Saj Hussain (Cyber Security Manager) & Gemma Harris (Information Governance & Legal Officer)

Participants: It is recommended that all staff undergo this training to refresh their existing knowledge of GDPR and Information Security.

Learning Outcomes: Familiarity with information law obligations and our internal procedures for ensuring compliance, such as our breach reporting procedure.


Getting started with OneDrive [ITOD01]

Description: This workshop presents an overview and practical look at OneDrive and it’s features. It’s designed as an entry-level session, no prior experience with OneDrive or cloud storage is required. Guidance for staff is provided to enable best practice when storing personal work data.

There will be opportunities to seek advice, clarifications and ask questions about OneDrive and its features.

Learning outcomes:

  • Gain an understanding of OneDrive, it’s features and how to use it to store files and collaborate
  • Know your responsibilities for storing data safely and in-line with UK and EU legislation

Getting started with SharePoint sites [ITSP01]

Description: This entry-level workshop presents an overview and a practical look at SharePoint sites and is designed to help you get started with storing and sharing business-critical data using SharePoint. There will be opportunities to seek advice, clarifications and ask questions about SharePoint and its features. Prior experience with OneDrive is beneficial, if you’re new to cloud storage please consider attending the ‘Getting started with OneDrive’ workshop first. Access to an example site will be provided as part of the training.

Participants: This workshop is designed for SharePoint site members.

Facilitator: Jack Carver (Senior IT Training Analyst)

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand what SharePoint sites are, what they’re for and how to access them
  • How to access and use the document libraries
  • Share files/folders and manage sharing link permissions
  • Recover items from the site Recycle Bin and previous versions of documents
  • Learn about the available support and your responsibilities as a site member

Administering SharePoint sites [ITSP02]

Description: This intermediate-level workshop provides nominated SharePoint site owners with the required knowledge to administer their SharePoint site and support site members. There will be opportunities to seek advice, clarifications and ask questions about SharePoint and its features.

Pre-requisites: Attendees are expected to have some prior experience with OneDrive and SharePoint. We recommend that you first attend the ‘Getting started with SharePoint sites’ training workshop. If you do not wish to do this, please ensure you have read the information on the SharePoint page on the IT Service website.

Participants: This workshop is recommended for all nominated SharePoint site owners.

Learning outcomes:

  • Learn how to add site owners, members and visitors
  • Learn how to manage document library, folder and file permissions
  • Gain an awareness of the essential site owner administration tools
  • Understand how to plan your data migration strategy
  • Know your responsibilities as a site owner

Getting started with Microsoft Bookings [ITBO01]

Description: This is an entry-level 1 hour workshop for Microsoft Bookings. This workshop presents an overview and a practical look at Microsoft Bookings calendars and is designed to help you learn how to set up and manage your Bookings calendar, services, staff and bookings. For general information about MS Bookings, please see the Microsoft 365 page on the IT Service website.

Participants: This workshop is designed for staff members that are planning to request a Microsoft Bookings calendar.

  • Managing your bookings and time off

Getting started with Microsoft Forms [ITFO01]

Description: With Microsoft Forms you can create a form, such as a survey or quiz, invite others to respond to it using almost any web browser or mobile device, see real-time results as they’re submitted, use built-in analytics to evaluate responses, and export results to Excel for additional analysis or grading.

This workshop is designed as an entry-level introduction to Microsoft Forms with no prior experience required. The session presents an overview and practical look at using Microsoft Forms via the website and the integrated Microsoft Teams app. You will learn how to use Microsoft Forms to create forms, quizzes, surveys and polls and manage the results. Participants are welcome to ask questions throughout the session.

Participants: This workshop is designed for staff members that are new to Microsoft Forms.

Learning outcomes:

  • Know your responsibilities for storing data safely and in-line with UK and EU legislation
  • Learn about Microsoft Forms and its capabilities
  • Use the Forms web app and the integrated Teams app
  • Create and edit Forms, surveys, polls and quizzes
  • Understand the question and data collection types
  • Control the appearance of your Form
  • Share Forms and collect responses
  • View and analyse results

Attending a workshop

Please arrive 5 minutes before the scheduled start of the workshop so that the session can start and finish on time. After the workshop you will be asked to complete a feedback form by email. Please do so as it helps us to improve and plan future courses.

Cancelling a workshop booking

If you have to cancel your place on a workshop please email staffdevelopment@worc.ac.uk as soon as you can and no later than two days before the workshop is due to run so that someone else can attend. Alternatively you can nominate a substitute – just let us know.
